Jerimae BIO

Jerimae grew up in a Mennonite household in rural Northern Indiana. There seemed to be a lot of religion in Jerimae’s life but he will be the first one to say that he never tried too hard to know God. So when he left College to look for that elusive relationship with “god,” he did not expect to end up reading the bible voraciously or experience the one, true God change his life dramatically before him.

Jerimae Yoder’s personal revolution began in 1995. A “radical self- turning” is how Jerimae describes the transformation that began on a summer evening on a park bench in Northern Michigan. Nothing would be the same from that point on. As he packed up his red VW bus bound for California from his home in Goshen IN., God began to work in all his situations. A two weeks stop in Indianapolis turned into 10 years, 1 wife and 3 kids.

His self described style of music is “Modern Acoustic” melding together acoustic guitar with electronic elements that he gleans from influences like Beck, Wilco, Derek Webb, David Gray, the Flaming Lips, MuteMath, Phil Keaggy, Jars of Clay, and Damien Rice.

The Objective-

We all want to see something supernatural.  Don’t we?  There is a reason that The Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, The great Redwoods and Yosemite National Park are the most visited places in the USA.  They dictate a vastness, a power, a greatness that is unexplainable yet visible.  People didn’t make it and they will spend hours upon hours looking in disbelief at what is before them.  That is what God is to me.  He is greater than my futile words.  Yet I can’t help but try to explain Him to people I meet.  By telling them the miraculous things that have happened to me in my life as I have followed and walked with Him, I remind myself that I am not alone.  I really think as a Christian, and a musician, that is what I am supposed to do.  To tell, to explain, to help dream.

If music is a tool, then it is a bullhorn.  It speaks loud so that all you hear are the words coming through it and everything else is in the background.  If music is a tool, then it is a jackhammer.  It shakes your foundation so violently that you can barely stand.  If music is a tool, then it is a scalpel.  It makes precision cuts into the flesh of our lives to reveal our hearts.

Begin to be who he has made you to be- Money or no Money.
